Half the ABS lamps on the road are on trailers, yet most diagnostic content stops at the tractor. This hub covers trailer-side diagnostics properly: PLC communication through the 7-way, brand-by-brand platform coverage, and the testers that check lights, brakes and ABS in one hookup.
Coverage and tool options
| Segment | Systems covered | Recommended tools |
|---|---|---|
| Bendix TABS/iABS | Faults, valve tests, configuration | ACom AE + PLC adapter ($189) |
| WABCO TEBS-E | Faults + full EBS parameterization | TOOLBOX Plus + PLC or TEBS cable |
| Haldex | Blink codes + basic diagnostics | Lamp codes / proprietary interface |
| Full trailer test | Lights, ABS, air system in one hookup | Alpha MUTT-style trailer testers from $2,995 |
Getting set up
The entry point is the PLC adapter: $189 added to ACom AE or TOOLBOX Plus reads trailer ABS through the standard 7-way — no crawling, no trailer-side connection. Fleets running 20+ trailers should look at a dedicated trailer tester, which checks the entire electrical and brake system in one five-minute hookup and pays for itself in inspection failures avoided.
Tools for this job
PLC trailer adapter
Reads Bendix/WABCO trailer ABS through the 7-way with ACom or TOOLBOX.

Can I diagnose trailer ABS without a trailer-side cable?
Yes — Bendix and WABCO trailer modules communicate via PLC over the 7-way's power line. A PLC adapter on your tractor-side diagnostic setup reads them remotely. Haldex needs its own interface or blink codes.
What does a trailer tester check that a scanner doesn't?
Testers verify the physical system: every lamp circuit, air leakage rates, brake application, ABS module presence and response. A scanner reads the module's opinion; a tester verifies the trailer itself. Fleets need both.
Do EBS trailers need different tools than ABS trailers?
Reading faults: same PLC path. Configuring parameters (load thresholds, lift-axle logic, roll stability): WABCO TOOLBOX Plus only. See the WABCO hub.
